Snapping Turtles at School

Updated: Feb 2

The bell rang. Students jumped from their chairs and headed out for lunch. The weather had become increasingly warm, so my friends and I decided to eat outside. Although we sat at the tables, we would always eventually find ourselves by the pond, looking at all the life (which I guess means laying down grass on frogs)

However, as we continued our journey along the pond, my friend screamed at us to come to him as he yanked something out of the water. Covered in dirt, but smiling brightly, he pulled a whole snapping turtle onto the grass. My friend and I ran back, but slowly came back. The snapping turtle was angry. With a tongue as white as clouds, and shell as sharp as thorns, it kept trying to bite at us.

To be honest, we were ecstatic. I've watched videos of people catching these huge alligator snapping turtles like Coyote Peterson, but although it wasn't an alligator snapping turtle, I've never seen someone catch a normal snapping turtle in real life. Therefore, honestly, I have to hand it to my friend for catching it, really courageous. It honestly looked like some kind of monster straight out of Stranger Things, but that was the beauty of it! It also smelled kind of funny, probably because of all the mud it was in.

However, even though we were excited, we didn't want to draw too much attention. Last time my friends and I caught a frog, 10-15 people came rushing over and it was kind of awkward. But now that a snapping turtle was caught, I felt like the entire school would rush over, so we had to hide behind some trees to admire the beast itself. I guess it was a decent school day.
